PROPOSAL TO NATIONALISE AREAS IN UNITED STATES. By Telesraph—Press Association—Copyright '.'Times" —Sydney "Sun" Special Gables. Washington, January 14. A resolution lias been introduced in Congress authorising the President to nationalise lands containing radium ores. The resolution has the backing of the Administration, but is opposed by Western members.

Mr. P. G. Morgan, director of geological surveys, arrived in Gisborno on Sunday to make, a general survey of the geological conditions of the district. Mr. Morgan expects to spend about a fortnight in the district, principally with th« idea of inspecting the indications of petroleum. The Rev. S. Nixon, of Pukckolie, was on Tuesday evening elected by the Auckland 'Presbytery as Moderator for the ensuing year. The retiring Moderator (Rev. I. Jolly) expressed his appreciation to his brotliPi- ministers for their assistance nnd courtesy to him during his term. Mr. W. Trueman has presented to the Petone Borough Council some interesting samples of oil in its various stages of refining, and also samples of shale, oil coke, nnd paraffin wax. Those samples are to bo placed along with other exhibits in the- corridor of the Public Library.
