The Minister stated that ho was srongly in favour of the construction of the East Coast ' railway being prosecuted from tho Motu, via Opotiki, Taneaiua, Matata, Paengaroa, Tepukc, Tauranga, and Kaititaki, to Waihi, and fhence to Pokeno. This last •section, said Mr. Eorries, was one of tho most important links of the line. He Was speaking moro particularly a3 Minister of Railways, and it was cssontiaj that something should bo dono to relieve tho congestion'of tho Auckland railway 'system that took place at Frankton Junction. The construction of the Paoroa-Pokeno section of the line would enable all traffic from Morrinsvillc, Thames, and To Aroha, etc., besides tho East Coast, to bo diverted to this new section. This would psrmit the whole railway traffio in tho centre of the North Island to bft simplified, transport would be greatly facilitated, and it would mean a great saving of distance from the East Coast to Auckland. . *
