C: Beary, a prominent anti-militarist, was arrested to-day in connection with his refusal to render military eervicc. Beary has been prosecuted about te.i times, and has served several .terms of imprisonment and military detention. His case- was mentioned in Parliament during the session, when the Ministor said lie had no desire to carry the prosecution of a conscientious objector to extremes.. N EAST COAST RAILWAY. Waihi, January 13. Replying to deputations at Waihi yesiforday regarding the East Coast railWay and telephone connection between Waihi and Waihi Beach camping ground','the'Hon. W. H. BUSH FIRES AT INVERCARGILL. Inveroargill, January 13. Bush fires are reported in tho Makarowa and Longwoou districts. In. the former a four-roomed house was destroyed.
