THE ABSORPTION OF MEXICO
S'v AN AMERICAN'S VIEWS. Mr/ David New York, who is at present in Wellington, had something to say to a reporter regarding the possible absorption of Mexico bv" the United States. Mr. ■M'Koiwie expressed tlio opinion that it would bo iinvviso on the part of the United States lo attempt to annex the country. To do so would be to arouse strong resentment on tho nart of tho Latin States of South America, and would lead to considerable trouble with them. If Mexico, of her own volition, sought an funalgumatinn \vith tho United States that would be a different thins, but ho did not think it was at nil likely she would do so. As to the ofipin of the prosent trouble it was, in its initial stages, a fight, hstweon tho Anvpriran ami English oil interests, but it had now got beyond the control of these interests, mid was in the hands of the Mexicans themselves who would have to fight matters' out ani.or.2st- themselves. . . .■ ;
