WHALING.
NORWEGIAN COMPANIES,
Tho Perth Fisheries Department, reports that three, Norwegian companies havo been whaling during tho past year on csclnsivo license for coastal waters from Steep Point to Capo Lambert, from Steep Point to' Caps Leouwui,' end Leouwin to Esperance, with respectivo capitals of £83,000, £45,000, and £40,000. The whales abounding are humpback, finback, sulphur bottom, Tight whale, and sperm. Finbacks aro of little, commercial value. Sulphur bottoms are scarce,, and right whales scarcer. The Sharks Bay fleet secured 243 humpbacks. Albany operations resulted in. tho capture of 98 sperm oil Tho taki> amounted to 7800 barrels, of the value of £22,000, and some parcels of ambergris. The number of men employed on an average was 115.
