: ROSS AND KUMARA CELEBRATIONS. (By Mecrspb— Press A»»ocia.tioa.) Hokltika, January 12. Jubilee Dayivas celebrated at : Ros6 <>n Saturday and at Kumnra to-day. The main streets of tlie towns we.ro very prettily decorated, the arches being especially tine. To-day the Mayor of Kumars, Mr. J, A- Murdoch, extended a heart? welcomo to tho pioneers. Speeches were also sireft by . Mr. Rob--ertsou (Mayor of La-Wren-co), Messrs. Joseph Grimmond, A- S. Malcolm, M.P., and G.' \V. Russell, M.P. the speakers thanked tho Kuinara peoplo for tho welcome. The weather, which was not favourable, provided a .text for facetious references to tho old miners who used to pray for rain in order to itavo fibod wash-ups.
. Tho Vice-Regal ■ party ■ arrived at noon from Greymouth, and tho assemblage gavo them a. hearty reception, - the Mayor making an appropriate speech. An address Was then presented to His Excellency,--who duly acknowledged tho sentiments expressed therein. The visitors were entertained- at lunch. I'll© weather was too wet to carry -out tho outdoor _ programme and tho procession and visits to old mining sites, etc., as originally planned, so nn adjournment was inado to the Adelplii Theatre, whero a concert, presided over by the Mayor of Lawrence, was held, aiid speeches, and recitations were given, tho theatre was packed to tlio doors, and an enjoyable time wis spent. The pioneers visit Greyiiioisth to-mor-row, where. they wilt be the- guests of the Borough Council,
