• 'MAN WITH A BAD RECORD. >. (By Tolcjraph.—Preos Association,' Auckland, January 12, ■ An unusual ease was brought before ' Mr. F. V. Kraaer, S.JI., at the l'olieo Court when Arthur Stanley, alias Sam- 1 ucl Sidebottom, pleaded guilty to beiiig an idle and disorderly person, and to iiave been habitually consorting ivit.li reputed thieves. Tho police said that accused was oiiti of a number of undesirable characters who had been attracted to Auckland by tho Exhibition, and had been committing a number of offences, including theft and pocket* picking. . The whereabouts of flic gang was recently discovered, but tiiey scattered. Accused had a very bad record and the be-st thing that could be doucv was to send him out of tho country. Mr, M'Malion, asked that ho be convicted and kept in custody, and bo nlaced on board the Sydney steamer by the police. Mr. Frazor said that when a man eamo from outside tho Dominion thorp could bo 110 injustice in sending him back to the country from which ho came. Ho wanted aroused to understand that if he eamo before tho Court- again there was a sentence of three months' hard labour waiting for him.
