MOTOR SERVICE TO PETONE.
COUNCILLOR'S SUGGESTION,
"That the council procuro ono or two motor buses for public purposes," was tho text of a resolution moved by Councillor H. Findlay at last night's meeting of the Petono Borough Council. The mover expressed tho" opinion that the timo was opportuno for tho council to take up such a schcmo, which would, he felt sure, prove profitable. Ho had gone into tho cost of a bus, its upkeep, tho cost of running, and tho likely profit, and ho submitted tho following figures:—Cost of a bus, £750; annual cost of upkeep, running six trips a day between Petono and, Wellington for 300 days, about £700; possible revenue, £5 per day, at an averago of 25 passengers per trip, at Bd. per passenger, per annum, £1950, loss £700 for tipkeop. Tho mover oonsidorcd that it was a good proposition, and he expressed the opinion that tho council should tako the matter up before a private company stepped in. Councillor ,J. Whist seconded tho motion. Councillor W. Cox, in moving nn amendment to the effect that, the council should first go into (lie matter fully, expressed himself as heing in favour of the proposal. However, ho should liko to see more particulars regarding the scheme, and he suggested that a committee be appointed to go into tho matter. Councillor A. Anderson seconded (ho amendment, which became the motion, and was enrricd. A committee was appointed to discuss the matter with the owners of the motor buses.
