The death occurred at Auckland last week of Mr. Robert Salmon, brotlier_ of Mr. J. W. Salmon, Postmaster at Wellington South. TII.O late Mr. Salmon Was for many years a member of the Auckland City Council.
Mr. Ci. Hojjbcu, inspeetor--Gcncral of Schools, returned from Auckland on Sunday, and goes to Duncdin this evening, to' attend tlio sitting of the Senate: there.
Mr. B. M. Wilson, general manager of tho Tourist Department, left for tho south last- night. Ho is going to inspect tho To Anau-Milford track. returning to Wellington about January 28.
Mr. Georgo Field, international inspector for Thomas Cook and Sons, who is oil a world tour inspecting tlvo outlying oftrccs, left Auckland on Safc\irdiiy for Waitomo, en routo to Wellington. He is accompanied by Mr. G. Hatch, of Melbourne, Australasian general manager for tho firm. Commissioner Richards, of tho Salvation Army, and Colonel -Rowley, chief secretary for New Zealand, will vis'fc Auckland this week, arriving on Wednesday. Accompanied by Brigadier Vincc, of Auckland, they will go to Taur-anga to hoist the army flag in that district. Mr. John M'Oorniack, the Irish tenfir vocalist, Was entertained at supper by tho Celtic Club in tho Burlington Rooms Oil Saturday evening. Dr. Caliill, president of tho club, was in the , chain and there were about 30 members and others present, including tho Mayer (Mr. J, P. Lake). Mr. E. N. Armit, who some weeks ago Irft Wellington to join tho staff of ■the Sfdnov "Daily Telegraph,- Ims been ill in a private hospital m .Sydney. He is now on the way te recovery. Mr. L- M. A. R-earclen, national secretary of the United Labour Party, has returned to Wellington from a holiday spent in the Hawko's Bay district.
