Beautiful weather prevailed for the amateur athletic exhibition- tournament 'held nt tho .Domain this afternoon. The attendance was over 6000, tlio attraction being tlio first appearance in Auckland of tlio American athletes. Tlio sport - were tho best held in Auckland for many years. Tho event of tho day was tlio niilo tost, in which power (U,S.A.), Hill, and Dormer (Auckland), were tlio only starters. This was ono of tie finest runs seen in Auckland for many years, and Dormer's victory over tho American was received with prolonged cheers. Ho won easily by 5 yards, but Hill gave up 200 yards from home. Keddell agauc proved his superiority over TcmpletoU, defeating him •in both llcat and final, flio Americans' showing in tho field events was extremely good. Templotoli cleared sft. lOin. in tho high jump, but was giving away too much to win, Caughoy. broke tho Now Zealand record for putting tho shot, as did Adam, ano* M'Hotra hrokc his own Australasian record for throwing tho hammer, m 2ft. 3>n . Power got away badlv, but soon took up tho lead, sua at tho end <sf tlio first lap, which was done in Glsec.j ho was fivo yards ahead of Dormer, with Hill 10 yards further back, Tlio second lap was covered in Smin. lOsec., the positions being unchanged, Then Hill ca'mo up fast, and led the others, round fast in tho third lap, but. that was his end. Entering tho straight all were together, but Dormer's long stride asserted itself,, and a magnificent finish saw him victorious by five yards. Hill gave up ,200 yards from homo and walked in.
