In Italy there has lately been put in operation a line of electric road which, although a short one, is of interest on account of tho direct use of three-phase current at 42 cycles. The line is laid from the quarries of Basco to the railroad station of Bagni in the neighbourhood of Kerne, ami its length in somt 7000 feet. The throe-phase current comes from (lie Laziale eler-tric station and is delivered by a Hue working at 11,500 volts, this beiuu reduced to transformer* on the spot to SOO volts for operatinjr the electric railroad. Small electric locomotives have SO horse-poivef motors ot special three-phase design on the BrownBoven system, which draw Sa-ton rock fraiin. '
