RAILWAY SHUNTER KILLED.

Dunctlin, January 11. ;'A railway, .shunter named James O'Mahoncy, a single man, aged aboutS<) years,"was killed in the Dunedin railway yards about 2.40 p.m. yesterday. Deceased was shunting at- the time, and noticed that the points for one lot of trucks were wrongly set. lie ran m front of the trucks to alter the points, but slipped on the rail and fell and the trucks passed over his legs, crushing both severely, one at the thigh and the other at the knee. Temporary aid-was rendered, and tho unfortunate iuan was removed to the Hospital, where ho.died at 6 p.m., after having undergone an operation in which n-nc- of his legs was amputated. He Jived with his mother in South Dunedin. Deceased bore the accident with lieroic fortitude. and remarked to one of his mates, "This'is the last of O'Mnhoney—goodbye." These were his last words. An inquest will bo held at tho Hospital to-morrow morning.
