The Basutos"'.'wrecked the .compound and took tho money intended for the miners' wages. They quitted the compound aud proceeded to invade the town. • The residents intercepted them and a sharp fight ensued. Tho farmers from the neighbourhood then flocked in and drove off the Basutos. Forty members .of-the Bedfordshire Regiment and tweuty-i-iyo Bloemfontoin officers with now hold tho town. ' A few trains from Blocmfontein are running, the drivers being under polier; protection."
