DOMINION CRICKETERS IN AUSTRALIA. . RECORD RATE OF SCORING, By Telcgraph-Presß AEsoclation-CopyrlKht (Rec. January 11, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, January 9. • The cricket match. Victoria v. Now Zealand, was concluded to-day. Tho proceedings, wore never particularly interesting, Victoria winning easily by an innings and 110 runs. The attendance was 4720 and the takings £101. On the first day the New Zealanders had made 111 runs in tho first inning's, and Victoria had lost five wickets for 235 runs. Tho not-out men, Lampard and Lugton, wcro opposed by the bowling of Sandman and Robinson. When Lugton had added four to his score ho tried to out Sandman, who bowled him .with a ,"googly." The Victorians then scored very rapidly, and put on IG7 runs before lunch—a Victorian record. Their innongs lasted 260 minutes. The New Zealanders. improved in fielding. Sandman dismissed; Armstrong with, a brilliant catch, and Hiokmott was-especially good in the long-field. Tho • bowling of tho visitors' was on tho whole mediocre. .In their second innings the New Zealanders shaped bettor. Sneddon w;as excellent with offectivo and stylish, strokes on both sides of the wicket. Ho reaohed fifty in seventy-eight minutes, anil his innings included four fourers. Hemus was' also stylish and showed good judgment of the paco of tho wicket. Tuckwell's display was colourless. He was Vi riiinutes at the wickets, and only , hit three fourers. NEW ZEALAND BATSMEN NOT ACCUSTOMED TO THEM. (Rec. January 11, 5.5 p.mi) Melbourne, January 10. Spi-aking to-day at the luncheon of the New Zealand and Victorian cricketers, Mr. MacKinnon, president of tho Cricket Association, said that.the New Zealanders had come to the Commonwealth not with the idea of beating the Australians, but because they were anxious to learn and gain ideas of value to the game in New Zealand-. Ho hoped that the result would bo that before long : New Zealand would he able to take her .place, with Australia and Africa and beat England on level teams. Mr. D. Reese, the New Zealand captain, expressed disappointment with the performances of the batsmen, who had not reproduced tho form they had shown in New Zealand. They were, he said, unable to accustom themselves to the fast wickets. NEW SOUTH WALES AND SOUTH AUSTRALIA. , ■■ (Rcc. January 11, 5.5 p.m.) Adelaide, • January 10. For the second day of tho cricket natch, South Australia v. New South Wales, the weather was fine and tho wicket good, > ' South Australia, on the. first day had made 189 in the first innings, and New South' Wales had lost three wickets for 95. ■ The innings closed to-day for 297 runs (Collins 111. ' Bardsley 79, and Cotter 29). Of the South Australian bowlers, Whitty took two wickets for 68 runs and Crawford seven i'<r 78. South Australia in the second ii-.n-ings have lost seven wickets for 66 runs (Mayno 28, Moves 11, Crawford not out 11).
