Tito death /occurred in the- 'Christ-i church -Hospital on Saturday of Mr. \V. H. Smith, an old ox-cmplqyco of th.o "Press" Company. Mr. Smith, v>ho was in his 80th year, was brought out to Adelaide from the Old Country when oiilv four vears oH. Ho served his time on the- Adelaide "Observer," mid. teen carflo to' N» Zealand, over fifty years ago. Alter working at his trade for a time in Southland, ho fame to Ohi-istcimrch, was engaged en tho "Lyttelton Times," and then joined the. "Press," of which paper ho was primer from 1863 to 1872. lie continued in Ao service, of tho company until a low months ago, when failing iieaitto cciiipelled his retirement on a pension.
