(Br Telepraph.—Prett ioioelaUoaJ, ,— 1 WHARF LABOURER'S DEATH. Auckland, January 0. A waterside worker named William H. Piddoek, who suffered seveto injuries to his logs while helping to load tho steamer Kuahiue on Monday, died at tho Hospital to-day. Ho Was engaged,in moving a heavy, table out of the way of some trucks on The King's Wharf, when his knees became jammed between the foremast truck and tho table, with tho result that both legs were severely crushed. The unfortunate mail was removed to tho Hospital at once, lnit succumbed to liis injuries after lingering for four days. Deceased was a married man, 62 years of ago, and Ins family reside in I'onßonby.

HOLIDAYMAKER DISAPPEARS. Taumaruhul, January 9. On Thursday of last week tho iosal police were informed that a nvan named Pom Halvey had readied a road! camp at Patuaga, and was in a condition that necessitated medical attention. Ho Was coming from Tatimarunui after tho Christmas holidays in Auckland. Patunga is 16 miles down tho Wanganui River, and- Constable Orohard was" dispatched to take chargo of Halvey, but found him missing, A search party scoured tho- neighbourhood all night without result. Yesterday the constable proceeded to Kokokomii, and there, near the landing, found Halvey's -c.oat and hat. There was no sign of' tho body. The constablo procured a canoe and searched tho river for several miles without- avail.
MAIL-CARRIER DROWNED. Duncdln, January 9. The Superintendent of 'Police has been advised that Daniel liovell, 40 years of age,. a single man, engaged as a mail* carrier, who had been living by himself in a wliaro at Deep Stream, was found in a crook near this hut at 6 o'clock this morning. CYCLIST SILLED, WCBtporf, January 9. A lad, agsd twelve years, was tun over by a cart "opposite the Post Ofika this forenoon, and killed. The body has not yet been identified, l'robably tho boy was a visitor from tho country, WHARF SAND BADLY HURT. Cisborno, January 4). While engaged in unloading railway sleepers frora tho s.b. Ripple at ihii wharf fo-night, a ivatersidfl workei named William Colo was struck on tho sidoof the head by air iron rail, attd sustained a fracture of the base of tho skull and a depressed frnctur© of the - vault of tho skull. The unloading gang were using a eouplo of rails as skids, and as a sjing of rails fras ascending from'tho hold it struck the end of one ■c-f the skids, causing ono of the sleepers to slew round striking tho unfortunate man. He was taken to tho hospital, wliero an operation was performed to-night, but his condition ia regarded as critical. He is a married man with a family of seven.
