SUPREME COURT.

QUARTERLY RETURN. The return of tho business transacted by tho Supreme Court in Wellington during the last three months of 1913 has been prepared. At th® criminal session, which comprised cloven sitting days, there were twelve indictments, none of which was thrown out by the Grand Jury. There wero*thirteen convictions, and ono acquittal. Eighteen persons were committed for sentence under the Justices of tho Peace Act, and two persons wero declared habitual criminals.

Tho "civil" days numbered 11. There wero 7 originating summonses dealt with. Two trials wero by common jury,, none by Special jury. Eleven cases were tried before a Judge alone. Judgment was'entered in 7 eases, and discontinuance allowed in 4. There were no compensation cases. Sixty-two Chamber sittings were hold, and in this way 415 motions, 29 summonses, and fit orders were dealt with, and 488 orders made. Tho Banco sittings numbered 30, and respecting this class of business the, statistics arc: Motions 7, hearings 18, rules and orders 18, ap*peals from inferior 'Courts 2, special cases 1. '

The. probate and administration figures arc: Probates,.77: administrations, 180; exemplifications, 19 ; searches, 13.

Respecting ljinacyV.'thcro were 9 petitions, 2 motions,.and.lo orders.

The registration statistics are: Chattels' securities, 155; memoranda of satisfaction, 27; powers'' of attorney, 7; newspaper, 1; " printing presses, 2 ; searches, 322.

The bankruptcy figures arc:—Sitting days, 4; debtor's petition, 1; creditors' petitions. 2; deeds of composition, 0; adjudications, 2'; adjudications annulled, 0; discharges. 3; public examination, 0; motions iu'Chambers,' 7;' motions in Court, 6; orders'. 12; search-warrants, 0; writs of arrest, 0; taxations, 4. Under the I'rope.rty Law Act, 11 applications to conduct sales were made.
