THE EARLY SETTLERS.
ANNIVERSARY DAY OUTING. About thirty people interested in the Early Settlers' Association met in the Mayor's room last night to make preparations for the Anniversary Day celebrations, which are to bo hold at Newtown Park on January 22. The Hon. J E. Jenkinson presided. Tho chairman mentioned; that among the features necessary were a baby allow and a maypole. Ho thought also that plenty of space in the centre of 'tho ground Bhould be re- ' served for sports* There could bo a chargo of, say, sixpence for admission, and souvenir programmes could be sold. There would bo no difficulty about getting trophies; a number bad already heeji promised. Tho prizes might tako tho form of useful goods, rather than toys.. Surplus funds would be put by to further th* endeavour to establish an early settlers' memorial. There was an idea, that the memorial should be erected near tho spot where tho old colonisto landed at Petone. Tho Mayor of Petono had heon communicated with, and was moving in this matter. Mr. Jenkinson mentioned that his Excellency the Governor would not be able to attend this year's gathering. Tho meeting -then proceeded to appoint committees to prepare for tho function. These committees are as follow: — Baby Show.—Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, Dr. Cameron, and Mr. P. Galvin. • Sports.—Messrs. L. M'Kenzio. W. E. Aloore, T. H. Walker, Edwards, H. M'Kenzio, D. M'Laron, Roualdson, W IT. Jones. G. Hill, Moyrick, D. Leslie, J. Povlo, Inch, Ford, and Richardson. Tents.—Hon. J. K Jenkinson, Messrs. L. M'Kenzio, D. M'Laren, and W. E.
