Deceased, who was only 42 years of age, was a son of the late Mr- E. L.' Wnkeiin, one of tho pioneers sf the Wairarapa. Born in Carterton ho was educated at tho local school, and' when a youth entered hiß late father's flour mill and bakery establishment, subsequently' becoming proprietor of the bakery portion of tho business, which, he carried on success, fully for close on eight years, and then relinquished it same ten years ago to follow the occupation of a carpenter, which he did until four months ago, when illness compelled his resignation. I'or many yea-is deceased was ah active member of St, Mark's Church Choir, and also tool; a share- of the responsibiittv of the vestry of tho same church, cor soino twenty-two- yeats he had been on nctivo member of tho Carterton Volunteor Firo Brigade, and at the timo of his death ftas a member of the Carterton School Committee. He was also a. member of tho local Order of Oddfellows. In 1905 deceased Was married to a daughter of the late Mr. Phillip Armstrong, of Carterton, and is survived by a widow and oiva son.
