COASTAL FLEET OFFICERS.

CLAIMS OF THE GUILD. On January 14 the disputes bclwoon the Wellington Shipowners (other than the Union Go.) and the Merchant Service Guild will lie heard before the Conciliation Council. There nro two disputes, ono between tin* master mariners and the owners, and the other behvoen the officers and the owners. The assessors appointed by the guild in respect to the captains' dispute nre Captains Geo. B. Corby, A. J. Doivol!, and I). J. Watson. In connection with tlio officers' dispute tho following have been appointed assessors to act on behalf of tho guild, Messrs. 0. Jackson, E. Turksma, and Captain I). J. Watson. Following are the claims of tho master mariners:— Wages.—On steamers whore only one ma to is carried, £28 per month; where two mates nro carried, £25 per month; and where tho master receives instructions to keop a Sen watch on vessels where two mates arc carried ho shall be paid overtime at the rate of 3s. 6d. per hour during such time as he is on watch. Holidays: Twenty-one days on tnll pay for each complete tivelvo months, such holidays to-be allowed to accumulate, but not boyond three years, and iE a master is discharged for anv reason other than misconduct Jio shall receive pay in lieu of tho holiday leave duo to him. When meals nro not provided there shall bo an Allowance of 10s. per day. A master called upon to change bis* borne port shall be given free first-cliiSß passage foT his family and frco carriage for his effects. Tf incapacitated by illness a. master.shall receive full pay and victualling allowance. The officers' claims nro in general conditions tho same as the masters'. The* minimum rate of wages shall be: Chief officers, £IG per month; second officers, £13 per month. Fourteen days' holi day on full pay shall bo allowed in each year. Except in special circumstances connected with tho safety of his-vessel an officer shall not.be kept at.w.ork continuously for moro than eight hours without payment of overtime, at the Tato of 2s. Gd. an- hour. Tho , allowance where meals aro not provided shall bo ss. per day. Preference for members of the guild is also asked for.
