A FOKWAKD MOVE. One o,f 'he most attractive and commodious restaurants in Australasia 13 claimed to he the distinction gained by Palmer's' Luncheon. Tea. and Supper Booms,. in Lambton Quay. Centrally situated, opposite the Public Trust Office, it has for a very longtime claimed the attention of business men' find others, pud now extensive alterations havo been completed, to meet tie frrowing demands. Speaking , to a reporter yesterday, the manager (3fr. G. fiussell) outlined tlie work .which has Iwn done to make everything comfortable for patrons. To start ■with, an entire new. front, the only one of its kindjn New Zealand, has Tieen put in, an 1 .in additional' shop taken in. M':hite-;lazed tiles and f.incv mirrors reflecting, back ths light, with ornamental windows neatly curtained off, go to make I ■up. o very attractive fronta.ee. Two entrances ate provided for, one leading to j tho general and public rooms, and the j other to a'private ladies' room. This has j been made a special feature of the place, for it was recognised that Wellington is not' too well- jeevided with restaurants at which ladies can secure a meal in private. The ladies' room in tastefully decorated in blue and white, with white enamel and walnut fittings, r.nrt electric lipMing over all the tables, which are provided to accommodate small parties. Beatin? is provided here for twenty persons, and already the facilities are being nvailwl of, and' appreciated. The main portion of the restaurant has been tergc--3r increased in size, and 100 persons can sit down to inoals. at once. The whole dining-room has been repapejed in green, with compressed paper coiling, picked out with blue, lending a light aud.attractive appearance to the large room. Here tables are for small parties, and bo arranged that expediency in service is greatly aided. An electric light installation lias been provided, doing away with the .heat and fumes of tho gas. The latter' is provided for emergency use. I'our private, rooms are arranged n?ar the street entrance, and these will bo found eminently suitable' for supper parties. ■ ons of the ino;t important features in any-, restaurant is the kitchen, and special care, has been devoted to it in the reconstruction. It iss been enlarged, and is now of the most commodious kind, while a new hot-water service h?.s been put in to meet the largely increased business that is being done. The kitctan. is under tho charge of the well-known chef. Mr. Matthews, who has been with, the restaurant since Mr. Palmer left. In his capable hands the cooking of the fare' provided is of the best, and his perfnal supervision is given to all orders. An '.augmented staff-of waiters attends to customers, and civility and quickness of service''are made ths chief considerations of .the. staff. ' An addition which will be welcomed by customers to Hiis well-known restaurant is thai- provided for keenins! the- meat end fish fresh and ceo! duriiisr the summer months. -A large hnek and cement store-room ha? been built for this pnrm*e and all food is thus kept cnol and fre=h. The mnufi'-jement are determined to do all possible to provide for the satisfaction of their clients, as too increased number daily frequenting the place has mado it apparent (hat in the past the rrstpunint has fully deserved the conudenc" placed in it. In the future it is hoped to enhance this good reputation. .
