FIRE AT PICTURE THEATRE.
BOX & FILMS DESTROYED. (By TelezraDh.-Prcsg Association.) Cisborne, January 7. As the picture performance was about to commence at the Opera Houso to-night a firo broke out in the operating box, and two programmes of pictures totalling 13,000 ft. of film, wero destroyed, while the new projecting machine was somewhat damaged, and all the fittings of tho box were destroyed., Tho theatre, which is a fine modern structure, is quite fireproof, and the outbreak, though fierce, was confined to the box. Those present, .though aware of tho fire, reinainod calm. After the fire had been subdued they took tho orchestra's playing of tho National Anthem as the signal that tho. entertainment had been abandoned, and quietly left tho building. The damage, which v ill run into a fairly large amount, is covered in several offices, but details of the insurances and of the total damage are not yet available. ,
