NARROW ESCAPE FROM DROWNING. At Akatarawa on Sunday last a six-year-old son of Mr, A. E, Whyte got into deep water in tho river. Tho littlo fellow's brother Douglas, aged ihirIcen, dived in after him, but owing to tho.. younger boy's struggling tho two got into serious difficulties. Mr. Claude Perrett, of Manners Street, who was fishing near by, hurried to tiro rescue ai?d succeeded in getting both lads ashore. Tho elder boy was then unconscious, but soon recovered. "'The body of James Smith, a singlo man aged 31 years, residing at South Invorcargill, was found in the Makerewn River to-day.
