Following upon interviews with London society loaders on tho banning of tho tango, the "Daily Chronicle" publishes opinions of leading New York people approving tho dance, though admitting that some forms of it wero objectionable. Cardinal Farley's opposition to the danco has caused tho cancellation of r. number of balls in New York, including one at the Catholic Institute, to which six hundred had been invited. Several of tho London restaurant* sre substituting English dances, notably the minuet. . '. , ■ .
A POLL OF SOCIETY. "Times":—Sydney "Sun" Special Cables. (Rec. January 6, 7.15 p.m.) London, January 5. A "tango matinee" was held at the Queen's Hall, the management inviting leaders of society who objected to the dance to be present to watch the programme. A variety of tangoes were danced before a crowded audience, which, however, did not include leading hostesses. Each spectator was asked to express a candid opinion, and when the cards wero collected it was shown that 21 declared the dance to ho immodest, while 731 thought, that it was not. : , ;
