OTAKI NOTES.
Hot weather continues here, aud in consequence hay-making, shearing, etc.. is in full swing. The crops arc all turning out well, while the wool dips are wry satisfactory. A tanpi, on a largo scale, is beinii held at \Vaikanae over the remains of Sir. Whitu Parata. a well-known resident. Natives arc gathering from nil parts, and the tangi is expected to be the biggest held in the district -for some time. Mr. AV. M'tecgg. chairman of the Town Board, has been spending a holiday in AVellinfltou. A collision between two vehicles occurred at Manakau railway crossing at the latter end of last week, with the result that one, vehicle suffered considerably, and the , occupants thereof shaken. It is said that the. vehicle responsible for the accident had no lights, ami failed to render help after the mishap occurred, despite the fact that, two or three indies were concerned. An application is now io be made to the County Council for a lamp to be erectfd at the crossing. '■: ■''
