A CHAMPION AYRSHIRE.

Tho breeders of Ayrshire cattio wero a little slow in bringing forth a thou-sand-pound butter cow, says n Canadian paper, but of lato they havo been doing their full sharo in tho malting of big rccords. All tho prominent dairybreeds now have cows which have 1 mado 10001b. or moro of butter in a year. Those aro phenomenally Jargo records, and ean only bo made when the man in chargo of tho cow fully understands tho feeding and caring for dairy animals and a cow which has wonderful producing ability.

K. S. Deubler, Superintendent. of Penshurst Farm, sent tho following information to "Hoard's Dairyman" regarding Auchenbrain Brown Kato 4th: "This record beats all previous rccords made by an Ayrshire cow—tho best previous being tho record of Lily of Willowmoor, 22269, which produced 22,1061b. milk, and 10161b. butter. Auchenbrain Brown Ivato 4th was selected in Scotland by Mr. Pereival Roberts, junr., arid imported in 1910. Sho was milked three times a day throughout her test, and her highest grain ration was 15 pounds in ono day. Tho record was authenticated by the Pennsylvania State College. Tho milk was sold at wholesale, at five cents per quart, and feed charged at the local markot prices. This record is a striking proof of tho value of tho, Ayrshire cows as an economical producer of ideal market milk. Sho is mostly red in colour and of largo size, her weight being 13i>0Ib, in ordinary milking condition, . Her dam, Yelloif Kate of Auchenbrain 13925, now 15 years old, produced last year 989 gallons of milk. Her sire, St. Simon of Auchenbrain 4900, is abb tho siro of Barcheski' Gwvnetto 24670, which ,is in tho Advanced Registry with a record of 15,2181b. of milk arid 7811b. of butter, average test 4.36. Another daughter, Auchenbrain Brown Polly, imported last year,, has milked over 701b. a day.

A son of Auclionbrain Brown Kate 4th,' "Ivato's Good Gift 15426," impovtpcHn dam, by "Lessnessock Good Gift. 7358 heads tlio Penshurst 'Ayrshire'herd.
