In tho case in wliicti ltalph Miiburn, Walter John Kcuislejy Edward William Idle, Bruce Anthony Cuthbcrtson, and Alfred Edwards Kemsley aro charged on remand 'with conspiring with' Raymond Ewart Kemsley, William Cowle, Cecil Thomas Bray, Charles Brown 1 ICellow, Isaac Fizackerley, and others, * to defraud His Majesty's Customs'of duty ou motor-ears, cycles, tires, and accessories imported into Australia by : ' means of talso invoices and declarations, between January, 1905, and June, 1910, Mr. Shorland, manager for the Clemont■Talbot_ Company, gave further evidence. He said that the company had fixed a low- price for the bodies'of'the cars, as it was to'their, interest to keep down the value of dutiable parts. , Tho price of tires followed tho price of the Rubber Company's catalogue, and allowed for tho wearing of tho tires in the testing of tho complete car. These allowance .values were based on minute calculations, and, in view of the keen competition, were. vital to tho ..company. The Australian Customs had nothing to do with" tho figures; these were the same for all parts of tho world.-
