It sounds odd, but is nevertheless a fact that the faster the green- the slower is the game. On a slow green players have to push their bowls up pretty fast to get up to tho jack, but on a "hard, fast groen, when it is difficult to keep tho bowls from rolling, shots have to bo played very carefully, and travel the length of tho green at a much slowor pace —hence tho longer timo taken to get through a game. Several of tho games played yesterday took nearly threo hours. Tho longest game played yesterday was tho fifth round game between E. J. Hill and Churchward on tho "Wellington green, ft lasted three hours and five minutes. Sievwright (Wellington),' who was undefeated in tho first four rounds, went down to Porteous (Wellington) in the fifth round yesterday by one point. Duff (Newtown) had a good win over Pryor (Hataitai) in the fifth round yesterday, scoring 34 points to his opponent's 10 on tho slippery Newtown green. K. J. Hill (To Hiwi), who had won four gamos in succession, met his Waterloo somewhat unexpectedly at tho hands nf Churchward (Wellington) in tho fifth round on tho Wellington green. Hill raced away until three-parts through the gamo, when Churchward caine with a spurt, and piled tho score on. On tho last head, with Hill three points to tho good, the game appeared to be over, but Churchward managed to measure up four shots, and got a welldoserved score. One of tho battles that attracted a lot of attention on the Wellington green during the fifth round was tho game between Newtown elubmates—the Brackenridges, and a team skipped by Bert Warwick. It was a ding-dong go from tho start, and the twentieth head found Warwick one up on his opponent, which he, by skilful drawing, improved by another on tho last head. On Newtown green what was probably the most remarkable game in the tournament was played between Hueston (Victoria) and Hogben (Thorndon). On the eleventh head Hogben was 19 and Hueston 4. For tho next ten heads Hcgbcn was unable to scoro another point, whilst Hueston piled on no fewer than 27 points. This, in its way, is a record. Tho record score for tho tournament was put up in the sixth round yesterday on the Wellington green. This was Brackenridge's (Newtown) win over Crane by 42 to 6 points. Still (Wellington) is tho only skin in the tournament who has not so far sustained a defeat. The game between Still and Hueston on tho Wellington green this morning should be , worth watching. RINK TO TOUR. Tho Victoria Club is sending n rink south on Wednesday next, consisting of North, Townsend, Keith, and Snaddon (s.). Tho rink will play at Tiniaru on Thursday, Oamaru on Fridny, and will play in the .rink tournament (Dominion Association) at Dunedin, commencing at Dunedin on Monday week.
