EMPLOYERS' £50,000,000 FUND
PROSPECTUS ISSUED
."THE PEACEFUL CARRYING ON . OF BUSINESS." ) <5 . . A few months ago vague reports were published of a fifty-million fund which, it was said, employers were atout to raise for the purpose of defending their interests against trade union j aggression. ;■ _ The prospectus has now been issued. The organisation is called "The United Kingdom Employers' Defence Union," which, it is stated, "is for the public welfare aiid to consolidate tho resources of employers ,of labour in tho United Kingdom, irrespective; of the business engaged in, or the number of persons employed, so that the ivital interest of all may be defended; against unreasonable, or oppressive attacks": — "It will maintain the rights, of employers to make and carry out agreements, individually with free iworkers, or collectively with a union, 'and to carry on their business free from mischievous interferences between employer and employed. "It. will; protect the right to : ,work of. free workers against tyranny and coercion on the part of trade unionists. "It will also endeavour to . protect tho public against the inconvenience and loss.caused .by strikes without.'-due. notice or without reasonable causi on the part of railway and tramway nisn, dock workers, miners, postal employees, or others. It is intended to promote the peaceful carrying on of business with duo consideration for all. f "To enable the union to di this it is proposed to "raise a guarantee fund of fifty million pounds sterlin?."_ Subject to certain conditions, it i 9 stated that two manufacturers have already guaranteed £50,000 each. Each member of the union is invited to guarantee a sum towards the CO millions required. The amounts guaranteed by members will not bo published unless desired. The guarantee in eacl) case is only to become operative after-tho said sum of 50 million pounds has been guaranteed. All calls on tho fund will be mde on the whole of the members pro rata according to the • amount each guarantees, and calls in [any ono year will not exceed 7£ per 'cent. oil. tho amount guaranteed. It is believed, the prospectus says, that much less than per; cent, of fclio guarantee fund will suffice to secure adequate protection for men willing to work and employers willing to employ. __________ ;
