OTAKi. A very largely-attended Maori "htii" —an annual gathering in connection with tho Roman Catholic Church—has just terminated at Pukekaraka, Otaki, Having exteuded over about a week. Maoris were present from all parts of tho Manawatii, and from Wairarapa, Rangitikci, Hawko's Bay, and other districts, there being somo five hundred in aH astcm'bled here. The arransi>ments for housing and feeding tTii's great concourse of peoplo were carried out in an eminently satisfactory manner, aiid tho whole gatliering was a great'success in every way. Various matters connected with the welfare'of the Maoris—their education and religious trailing, were diseased at length, 10-day the greater part of the Natives havo left for their various homes. Maraha, House, at Waikanae, is b<j. corning increasingly popular, and during the present summer has been practically filled for months past. During the holidays its accommodation ha? been taxed to the very utmost. It is a. good sign that a great many of this year's visitors are those who have previously visited Waikanao, Mrs. F. AV. Robinson, of Manalsau., ■met with a misfortune on Chi'istmii-F Day, very Severely spraining her arm, as tho result of a fall.
