SUCCESS OF THREE-SPEED "TBIUXtI'HS" in SIDE-CAR TRIALS. There used to be a notion, not so very loli£ ago, that tho standard single-cylinder 31 h.ti. motor-cycle was not powerful enough for side-car work. Tho iatrodnction of the "Triumph" three-speed gear did a great deal to dispel that rojtion, and tho fallacy must have received its death' 'blow in the sidr-car trials conducted toy Hie X.C.M.C.C. over tlio Akafoa-Christ-cisurch course on Anniversary Day. The rout* is full of steep hills, arid the going was inacto heavier than, usual by recent tains. Before the start it was confidently •prophesied that tho single-cylinder, machines would never sec the.end Of the journey. To tho surprise of everyone not in the know the single-cylinder machines, of which there were, thirteen, behaved on tho average as well, if not better than, the Seven big twin-cylinder machines with engines of up to double- tho horsp*uowei'. Espccinllv meritorious was tho performan<-« of the- three-speed "Trinmpnft." Ono of these machine!), driven, b? F. HAworth, was ono of the five which secured full marks for reliability, whilo it was only beaten for first place by a twin-cylinder machine on ono point, on condition. A? (his only meant that tho "Triumph" had an extra splash of mud *v an extra drop of oil adhering to the engine, it detracted nothing from ihe practical value of the "Triumph's" faultless performance. It should bo mentioned that in this trial thoro was no handicapping. Every- machine stood on its own merits, irrespective of potver. Tho ■'Triumph" was coupled to a "O.noeiel" side-ear, the strength; daintiness and lightness of which, created much favourable comment. Tho firm of Adams Limited has now socured the' sole agency f<;r these popular Fide-curs, and a shipment of fiftr is now on route for New Zealand. Call and see tho new (lireo-spesd "Triumphs," which, in addition to being perfect side-oar machines., nr* economical in running, and equally suitable for solo work, which is morn than can be honestly said of mopt of tho big twins.
