MANGATAINOKA SPORTS.
(By Telegraph.—Pross Association,) Pahifitya, December 27. . The fifteenth gathering of tho Mangatainoka Athletic. Society was held yesterday in favourable weather, and was very successful. The principal running events resulted: —75yds. and lOOvda., J. D. Calvin; 220 yds., J. Yesty; 220 yds. Hurdles and MOyds., J. W. M'Kain; 300 yds., A. I l '. Thompson; half-mile, H. Hedward; milo, M. Iloberg. Points prize for running, J. I.). Galvin. Tho Senior Cadet competition was won by tho A team from No. 31 Company, Wellington, with 275 points; No. 84 Company, Mnslcrton, with 204 points, were second; and 13 team No. 31 Company, Wellington, 210 points, third. Pipe-Major C. C. M'Donnld, Auckland, won tho principal pipe music competitions, iuul T. Jallray, Pnlmerston North, was most successful in tho Highland dancing, .lalfray also won the Smith Memorial Medal for sword dance. Daisy M'Lellan, Wellington, won _ a silver cup for most points ivi juvenilo Highland events. During tho afternoon a lament was played by the Pipe Band out of respect to tho memory of the late K. (Kiltie) Smith, of Konisii, who was one of tiio founders of the society and was slso one of tho best known sports in New Zealand, ,
