In England and Scotland bird-lifo was, however, fairly plentiful. _ Mr. I' rogatt (Government entomologist) made a plea for tho establishment of more,bird sanctuaries. Ho was, however, strongly of opinion that it was 110 use protecting all birds indiscriminately. Thcro wore some birds which, through the,want of n balance, or alteration of tho balance, might easily bepomo pests, as would cockatoos, for example, in a wheat district.
