EVERYMAN'S MOTOR-CAR.
THE BIGGEST DEVELOPMENT,
While tho proportion of largo earf has- incroasodj it is interesting, say< "Kngineeriiig," to note fijiifc ilie- very small car is now being tjitilt in larger, numbers. The needs of the man who wanted a really small and light car hava in the past been quite neglected. Ten years ago there were quits a number oi two ssaters under lOcwt. and fourseaters tinder 15e\rt., while three .years or so ago a two-seater under lGewt. was hardly obtainable. Under the name of the '"cycle-car" iho very light twoseater has been boomed into popularity again, and this fact lias Bad an effect oii the car proper. Officially the definition tff a "cycle-ear'' is a vehicle with, a. chassis weight of under 6ewt., and a cylinder capacity of under 1100 cub. cm. The distinction between "car : and "eyrie-car" is an abusurdity, many of the "so-called "cycle-cars" bains in ievery way small cars with ■ four-cylinder engines, Hutch,, gear-box, etc., exactly as in the large car. That the develop menfc of this light type of two-seater had had a good effect is certain. Siiico qui to workmanlike two-seaters are now produced weighing some 7cwt. to Bcwt.,it is quite ceriaiu that a four-seater can he built weighing less than 20cwt. Further it is possible te bnila something a little bigger than the small two-seater and. yet a good deal liglvter tlia'n tua ordinary IScwt. two-seater of two years ago. Accordingly, there arc quite ii number of really small two and fourseaters being introduced, ranging fro.ni 7cwt, upwards, generally following ear lines, but suitable for only light open bodies or very light two-seated closed onfrs. ■ There can bo no doubt those will fill a considerable want.
