UNDER MILITARY CONTROL.

' BOYS IN TRAINING. Following on tho example sot by tho Wanganui Collegiate School, the Now Plymouth High School handed over control of its affairs foe five days to tlio military authorities, ancl invited Colonei Heard, Officer Commanding the Forces during General Godley's absence, to inspect during tho period of training. Colonel Heard has returned to Wellington impressed with tho excellent work done by the hoys, and firmly convinced that the idea is an excellent one. Major Tempcrloy, Imperial General Stall, had compieto control during tho period of military occupation of the school, and tho boys carried out their duties as if they were a, regular unit. Tho work done was both theoretical and practical, and Major Tempcrloy has reported that tho cadets did exceedingly w-ell. Colonel Heard saw them' during field operations, when thev marched two or three miles out of New Plymouth. It was a» alianiin* able day, blowing half a gale, and rain falling in torrents. Notwithstanding this tho boys stuck to it in a game manner.

"From tho report I have received regarding Wanganui College, which I regret I was not ablo to attend, and from what I saw at New Plymouth, I regard tlio idea of military control of schools for a short period as excellent, and the results leave nothing to bo desired," said Colonel Heard yesterday, when talking to a reporter. ....
