Hanson, charged with shooting Allen at Kiriponui on Decomber 11, was bcforo tho Court .it Dargaville yesterday, and, on tho application of tho police, was remanded for eight days. On a doctor certifying that Allen was out of danger, bail was allowed (self in £100 and two sureties of £IGO, or one of £300). ■ [A previous telegram stated that- John Allen, a farmor at lvirikopuni, was shot, and was lying in a critical condition at tho hospital. While Allen was examining firearms at tho store, a man named Hansen, it was stated, shot him, tho bullet penetrating a lung.] SLIP DELAYS A TRAIN. Dlilicdin, December 21. Tho train that left Dunedin for Clyde yesterday was delayed at Wingatui owing to a largo slip at Salisbury (West Taiei'i). The train left Wingatui at 11.20. 'J'liere were several small slips beyond on tho Ilindori section, but it was expected that tliey would be cleared away by tho timo the train got there. A ballast train was dispatched to tho Otago Central to-day, and it is (expected that everything' will bo in readiness to resume the ordinary train service to-morrjw. Tho weather is much better to-day, only a few showers falling. .INQUESTS. Chrlstc'nurch, December 20. At the inquest on Jamos Ford, who. was found dead at ■ Yaldlnirst, being killed last night through his motorbicyclo head snapping whilst crossing a water-race, a verdict of accidental death was returned. ' Richard Kemp, who died at 4.30 yesterday afternoon at his house, had a drink a fow minutes before. He was seen struggling in pain. A wrapper was found in his room marked "poison." Tho post-mortem disclosed no trac© of poison. A verdict of cardiac syncope was returned. PAINTERS' AWARD. Dunsdin, December 20. At the Arbitration Court to-day, Mr. Brei'ii, for tho Wangamii Painters' Union, asked that tho' recommendation, providing for a minimum wage of Is. iid. per hour, bo made into an award. Tho Court made an order accordingly, inserting tho ordinary under-ratc workers' and preference clauses. Tho award will corno into force on December 29, and will run for three years, unless it is superseded by a Dominion award.
