Daniell) read corrcsI pondenco that had passed between him>. self and the Minister of Public Works, in which ho had urged that tho opinion of tho engineers bo taken concerning tho deviation of the Bimutaka railway , bofore <1 start was made with the construction of the Featherston-Martin-borough railway. Considerable discussion took place on tho subject; one or two members suggesting that influence was being used to get tho railway started from Fjatlierston. The president maintained that tho engineers had reported strongly in favour of the deviation froni Woodside, and ho urged that this should be the starting point of tho Martinborough railway. The action of the president in communicating with tho Minister was confirmed, and a sub-com-mittee was appointed to confer with tho I Lower Valley settlers, with a view to presenting a monster petition- to the Minister an tho subject. Tho chamber further decided to ask tl» General Man- ; ager for Railways to comicet the Wairarapa mail train with the Main Trunk railway, .
