A PRESENTATION.
» I TO MR. JOHN KIRGCALDIE. J : At the close of business yesterday the staff of Messrs. Kirkcaldio and Stains, Ltd., met in the tea- room and presented Mr. John Kirkcaldio with an address of congratulation on completing j his business jubilee. The address, which was presented by Mr. J. Tessdale, j was worded as follows;—"To John Kirkcaldio, Esquire. Dear and honoured sir,—We, the undersigned, representing tho entii'o staff of Messrs. Kirkcaldio and Stains, Limited, desire 011 their behalf, to present to you, as chairman or directors,' and tho surviving original founder of tho business, this address of congratulation upon tho 50th anniversary of December 9, 1863, on which date tho business, now grown to such largo dimensions, was first started. Wc wish to placo upon record our high appreciation and esteem of your character as a largo employer of labour, and as a man, a men of lofty principles, great- determination, high integrity, and of humane feelings. Wc consider that your constant attention to business, your wise discrimination, foresight, and perseverance, under Almighty God, have been instrumental in placing the foundation and structure upon such right lines, that havo insured the high attainment which we seo to-day of 1 a- business held its the highest esteem by its patrons, and with whom it is a pleasure to he associated in any way. We sincerely trust and pray that you ma.v long bo spared in tho enjoyment of good health and continued prosperity, to your family and to your staff (whom wo represent), and it is our desire to assure .you that wo hope to show by our hearty co-oporation that the interests of tho firm are our own as well, and trust that tho business will eoni'inuo still to grow and prosper accordingly. Wo would tako this opportunity of thanking you most sincerely and heartily for .your most generous gift, which was given so graciously upon tlio ovo of tho jubilee wo are now commemorating. With our kindest regards to yourself and to tho whole of your esteemed family, wc have the honour to be. dear sir, . . ."
Tho address was . beautifully illuminated and was in nlj'um form. The oak casket in which tjfo album will roposo was gold monuted'and very handsomely finished. _ The Napier branch presented Mr;. Kirkcaldio with a silver-mounted inkstand which was suitably inscribed.
