THE ALLOCATIONS. Mr. T, Ci. Macarthy, who died lad year, left tho proceeds of half bis midlist ry ostaio ior tho beueiit of charitable and educational institutions in tho district of Wellington. Tliat portion of the will referring to this generous be(jncst read:— "The other half of the annual rents and profits of the residuary esiato shall, until tho death of Mrs. -Macarthy, bo paid and applied by the Pnblio Trustee to, or for, such charitable or educational purposes ..or institutions in tho provincial district of Wellington in such manner and_in such shares and to such extent as tho Hoard of Trustees, constituted under the wi!i, shall from lima to time by resolution direct and appoint. . . . The deceased, by his will, declared that ho hoped to executo a airther will expressing his wishes and desires concerning the charitablo and educational institutions, but if he fail' cd to do so lie declared the Board of Trustees should have absolute discretion over tho charitable and educational institutions as to how the- income shall be paid or applied by the Public Trustee, and that their discretion should not he questioned or interfered with in any court of law or equity," iJnder tho provisions of the will the Board of 'i nistees was constituted as iollows:-—His Excellency the Governor, the i'Hmo -Minister, thu HoiiiiUi Uatii-O" , lie Bishop of Welliitjttou, and the .Mayor of Wellington. It was also resolved to favourably consider a grant of £2000 to Victoria Cojlege and £500 to St. Patrick's College ; in each ease for r,onus'purpose coiljiectcd with tho institution and associated with tlic .name of Mr. Mncarthy, the scheme to bo submitted io and approved by the hoard. It must lie clcarl.v understood that the abovo grants are for this year only, and do not in any way commit tho Trustees to any periodical contribution. Eaeh year applications will be called, and considered afresh at fir&t- by tlin Advisory Board and finally by tho Trustees.
