Karorl School. Mr. B. G. H. Burn, tho cliairman of the committee, presided over a verylargo attendance at tho break-up yesterday afternoon. After expressing the committee's great appreciation of the work of the 6taff of tho school,' ho impressed upon parents tho importance of the regular attendance of their children. Thanks wero given to tho donors of special prizes, viz:—Mr. Burn, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Nimmo, and Mr. Richards. At tho conclusion, hearty cheors were given for tho committee, tho teachers, and the headmaster. All tho teachers wero recipients of tokens of regard from their respective classes. The breaking-up proceedings . at • iht, Aewtown School yesterday afternoon were marked by great enthusiasm, the majority of -tlief committee being present, and'also many parents. Several infant classes wero iirst visited, and the children were addressed iby Mrs. Evans and Air. J, Castle. The senior scholars wero then assembled in the large schoolroom. M''..vastlo, in a brief speech, congratulated the teachers and scholars on the jvorlc done during the year. He specially referred to the large number of firstclasd ■ attendance certificates—namely, ft), awardedito pupils'who had attended, every time school was open during the year. Seventy-tivo, second-class certificates were itlso awarded to thoso who had not been absent more than five half-days during the year. Thero were' f Aproficieiif.y .presented. The" otix of'.the girls 1 division'proved to be Nellie Jones, who rejeived a gold medal, presented-by, Mr. J. Castle. Mrs. Boxall; president of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, was present and called upon Mrs, Evans to present the prizes given by the union l for the temperance assays, which had been judged by the Rev. Tlio headmaster, Mr. Parkinson, • also spoke, and, inter alia, mentioned that ho was pleased at the revival of interest in the game of tennis. Normandale School. The annual distribution of prizes took place on Wednesday evening at the Norwandalo School when a very interesting programmo of songs, dialogues, and recitations was gone through. The little school was taxed to its utmost to find seating accommodation for parents, scholars, antl friends. Mr. Adams, ehairiTinn of the School Committee, distributed the prizes, and in doing so dwelt upon tho value of education not only from tho commercial aspect, but from the more noblo and elevating pleasures to bo derived from a knowledge of Nature and science in all their phases. A most enjoyable evening was spent and the school broke up with the united singing of the National Anthem and three lusty cheers for the teacher, Miss 0 Rattle. Tho prize-winners were:— Greta. During the afternoon the pupils provided an entertaining concert programme, and the in-, fants, under tlio direction of Miss Roberts, rendered in a pleasing manner, the operetta "To ( yland Town."
