SWEARING IN THE SPECIAL MEN. (By T«l«jrnph—Presi Association.! Croymouth, December 17. , About 300 specials were sworn in at the Court-house to-day. Tho Magistrate (Mr. Hewitt) said steps were, being taken to open the port, and men wiio°desired to work were Quito right to ask for protection. It was not anticipated there would ho trouble, but in other places in tho absence of specials opportunity had been seized, perhaps by irresponsible®, to cause trouble. Further batches will be sworn in to-morrow. To-day there were four objcctors—three on account of business men at Bmnnert-on and one on conscientious grounds. Two objectors took the oath on the assurance of the Magistrate that they would not lie called unless circumstances warranted tlie whole of tho specials being called oiit. Those refusing to take tho oath will be dealt with to-morrow.Al-together it is expected TOO or 800 ;\vifl ho enrolled. Tho Holmtlale is in tho roadstead, but has been sigralled to take tho bur.
