WILTON'S BUSH.

A DESIRABLE POSSESSION." His Worship the Mayor (Mr. ,T. P. Luke), accompanied by'the City Engineer and Town Glork, i-aicl a visit of inspection yesterday to Wilton's Bush, the very desirable reserve of. native bush at the back of Wadustown. The object of tha visit was merely to freshen their memories of the beautiful spot, in view of possible contingencies in the futuro. Mr. Luke stated to a Dominion reporter yesterday that it was surprising to ]ii;-ii that this valuablo scenic . reserve was not visiter! by more people than is case. It: was a beautiful bit of native bush, the only bit within miles of Wellington, and only fifteen minutes' walk from the tram terminus at Wadostown. It was p. tine asset to the city, but one which he thought had not so far been assessed at its true value by citizens. The spot was perhaps a little remote from close residential settlement, but in the near future when settlement was thicker along the main road to Creswick rotiskicratian would have to bo given to means of. transit in that direction. In the mean- ■ time ho would say that it would,.he a payable proposition to institute some sort of transit service between the terminus of the tram e.vstem. at Wadestown and Wilton's Bush during the summer months. Owing to the phenomenal rains which, lhad fallen for over - a. fortnight past, both reservoirs at Karon. . were overflowing, aiid iho stream which takes its source from the overflow and ■ runs seaward through Wilton's Bush, and Kaivarra. is un to its mid-winter level. When it is running so strong it is impossible to cross the' stream dryfoot, and the most desirable spots, in tho ° Bush cannot bo visited. I'or that reason tho Mnvor contemplates having a small bridge thrown over tho stream, so' . tliat visitors will be quite .independent of the stepping-stones which have, ueen flooded over for weeks past..'l he stream was running too (U"'Ci> and switily lor .
