LOCATING GOLD ORE.
, *— ■ . EXPERIMENTS AT WA'IHI. Remarkable demonstrations have been made recently by Mr. \V. M. Wallnutt, J.P., on mining properties at AVaihi, states the Auckland "Star's" correspondent. As a result of experiments in Waihi, in the presence of mining officials and others, satisfactory evidence has been given by Mr. Wallnutt that he is capable of locating lodo bodies existing several hundred and a thousand feet underground. His operations are conducted on the same principle as that on which water diviners exorcise their powers. All the tests so far carried out hare proved correct. These include tho locating of two small lodes in tho Grand Junction mine one thousand feet underground. They were made, it may ha stated, prior to the crosscuts reaching tho respective points, thus proving tho accuracy of the power. The course of Waihi Company's lodes was also indicated correctly, the, positions being accurately determined. Other lodes on theso and other local properties have been marked out, and are to bo intersected in course of development work. An estimate of width and course of these ore bod:es has boon given in all cases. Mining men aro showing much interest in tho matter. The experiments have also shown that the richer and more mineralised the lodo is the greater tho vibrations which pass through Mr. AYallnutt's body. He states that the vibrations from n known rich lodo on the Waihi Company's property were so strong that ho fell, and found it difficult to walk. No rod is necessary, except as something which tho operator can grip, or with which to determine the force of tho pnwer. In Mr. Wallnntt's case the cxistonco of water has no effect upon him. . A demonstration was afforded a number of people on Friday afternoon. Included in the. party who accompanied Mr. Wallnutt were the Mavor (Mr. M. G. Power), Town Clerk (Mr.'H. D. Mnrpeth), Messrs. AY. Given (assistant director of the Thames School of Mines), M. ¥. Hasssard (surveyor and mining engineer). A. T. Ellis {electrician at the Waihi School of Mines), Press representatives, and other citizens. Mr. Wallnutt first gave his attention to the Martha Hill, where ho located ihe approximate line of the Edward lode. ' From there the party proceeded to the Recreation Ground, on the oilier side nf which tho company watched with keen interest the location of two lodes in the vicinity of tlm old Union system of reefs. Tho Waihi Company is about to put in n horizontal boro from tho faces of the Reptile crosscut (about a thousand feet underground, or a distance, it is estimated, of sixty feet from tho point where Mr. Wallnutt located the first lode). It will bo interesting to know if Mr. AYallnutt's predictions aro fulfilled when the result of the company's operations is made available.
