EXPECTED TO-DAYV Important developments are expected to-day—possibly because the Lyttelton election is over. Conferences were tho order of tho day yesterday. The shipowners' representatives met tho Employers', Farmers',' and Citizens' Defence Committee and subsequently tho seamen's; delegates from Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin. All day long meetings .were in progress and. again during tho evening. On inquiries being made after each meeting a reporter was informed that there was nothing . for publication in tho meantime. From information obtained elsewhere, however, it appears- that certain happenings, as far as the seamen aro concerned,, aro likely to take place to-day. Die strike enters upon its eighth week this morning and there is just a chance that beforo tho day is over it will be known that a large section, of tho strikers have decided to go back to work. During tho past week those who have been in close touch with affairs, and even the strikers themselves; havo expressed tlio { opinion tliat "something" would hanpon on Wednesday, December 17. 'All indications point that way.-
