BRITAIN'S ARMY HORSES.

Lord Esher, speaking p.s president of tho' London Territorial Association, has complained that in tho event of a general mobilisation, every available horso would be required for the Regular Army, and none would be left for the Territorials, Colonel Scely (Secretary of State for War), replying, denied this statement, and said that • 140,000 horses would bo required for a general mobilisation, while the latest census showed that Britain had- <160,000 horses of a suitable stamp, which eould be requisitioned! Colonel Scely denied that the activities of foreign military purchasers of British horses were detrimental to British interests. Lord Eslier replied to this that as 518,794 horses, and 151,781 mules and donkeys ivcro used in tho Spilth African campaign, ho was unable to accept Colonel Seely's comfortable assurances.
