STEMMING THE ALIEN TIDE.
AGAINST ASIATIC LABOURERS. By Teloffraph—Prees Association—CopjtJeM Washington, December 14. An amendment to the Burnett Immigration Bill, designed to excludo Chinese, Japanese, and Hindu labourers, has been adopted bv tho Immigration Committee of tho House'of Representatives, and is now ready for consideration bv the Legislature. 'l'ho Bill is practically identical with that vetoed by Mr. Taft, because it provides a literacy test. Pacific Coast members tried to insert an amendment barring all Asiatics, but other members rejected it, and passed only one amendment relating to the admission of labourers. Tlio measure provides for tho exclusion of persons who cannot under tho existing law beccmo citizens of the United States by naturalisation unless otherwise provided for by agreements or conventions.
