An old resident and one of tlio earliest, colonists of New Zealand, Mrs. C. J. Parker, passed away at Jlakaraka, Gishorne, at tlio latter end of last week. Slaoro presided, and said that Mr. Aiken's courtesy and attention to tho wants of tho users of tho railways bad won him the esteem of c-veryouo in Johnsonville. Eulogistic speeches were also made by Slossrs, A..J. Slay, \x. 11. Lawrence, Evan Evans, ,T. lialligan, ami J. Ferguson. Mr. Aiken was presented with a handsome travelling-bag, rug, and toilet set. In reply, ho stated that his stay in Johnsonville would always be pleasantly remembered by him. Sir. John Townlcy, for eighteen years Mayor of Gisborne, and for a long period chairman of tho Harbour Board) was lately tendered a complimentary concert at Gisborne. in recognition of lu.s service as superintendent of the Gisborne Fire Brigade during the last .thirty years. .
