Jiual carnival, which is to be held in , ( Cook's Gardens 011 January 1 and 2. : year the Wanganui Axemen's Cup • 'is worth £100 in prizes, the only placo ; Zealand"outside Eltham offering ; " ■inch' big money. A rattling good entry ; has been received, and some of the finest axemen in tho country will make the chips fly. On tho first day, the Cup, the Handicap Maiden Chop, tho Underhand Chop, and tho Single-handed Sawing Handicap will be competed for, in addition to which there will bo a halfmilo and one milo cycle handicaps, and tho New Zealand Wheel Race, for which there are £50 in prizes. An equally attractive programme has been prepared for the sccond day
