HOLIDAY FOR FOOT SPECIALS.
RESOLUTION OF THANKS. The 1500 special constables who wore enrolled far service on foot in the city aro now to lie relieved, but will bo ready for duty if called on J.gaiu. Their principal work has been the guarding of wharves, but from to-day the wharves will be again controlled by the Harbour Board. Tho Employers', Farmers', and Citizens' Defence Committee passed a resolution yesterday expressing thanks to tlu) foot specials for their services. The resolution read as follows: — "That in view of the early dishandment of the unmounted section of the special police who have been on duty night and day for several weeks, this committee, representing as it does tho law-abiding citizens of the province of ■Wellington engaged in every branch of industry and cnmnierce, desires to place on record its grateful acknowledgment and appreciation of tho invaluable services rendered to''the community, and the self-sacrific-ing spirit manifested by tbe members of°tbe force at a critical period when mob'law prevailed for a time, and (he rights of a free people wero seriously menaced.
"That this resolution bo convoyed to tlio men in as public a manner as possible."
