This fall is variously described to tho ill-success of tlio Canadian loan, the possibility of another Australian loan, and Mr. Asquith's- recent speech at Oldham. CANADIAN LOAN. London. December 8. Tlie underwriters tako 83 per cent, of tho Canadian loan. A previous message, dated December 3, reported that Consols bad touched .£7l Cs. 3d. (ex-interest), and closed at .£7l 2s. Grt. Mr. Asquith, speaking at Obibam a few days ago, said that if the expsndituro by Britain and Europe were maintained nt tlio present rate during tho next ten years it would cause frravo disquietude. Britain was faced by a demand for increased educational expenditure, and .tho time had come to reexamine tho whole system of taxation.
